$1.49 per tree
No monthly fee. No setup fee. You are charged only when a tree is actually planted, and every charge is made through the Shopify Billing API and appears on your regular Shopify invoice.
1. How merchants are billed
GrowGood uses Shopify's usage-based billing. When you install the App, Shopify asks you to approve a $0/month subscription with usage charges of $1.49 per tree planted and a spending cap. Nothing is charged until you approve that subscription, and the App will not plant trees before it is approved.
- Per-tree usage charge. Each time an order results in trees being planted, GrowGood creates a Shopify usage record for $1.49 × the number of trees.
- Charged before planting. The usage charge is created before the planting request is sent to our planting partner. If billing fails, nothing is planted — you are never charged for a tree that was not planted.
- No duplicate charges. Each charge carries a per-order idempotency key, so retried webhooks cannot bill you twice for the same order.
- Spending cap. Your subscription has a default cap of $500 per 30-day billing cycle. You can set a lower monthly limit inside the App at any time. Once the cap is reached, planting pauses until the next cycle or until you approve a higher cap.
- Where it appears. All charges appear on your Shopify bill from Shopify — GrowGood never asks you for a credit card, and there is no separate invoice, subscription, or payment portal.
2. Customer-funded trees
GrowGood can add an optional tree-planting product to your store so that shoppers can choose to plant a tree along with their order. This is where a second, separate money flow exists, and it is worth being precise about it:

The tree-planting opt-in is an ordinary product in your catalogue, priced by you (default $1.50). When a shopper adds it, they are paying you at your own checkout. GrowGood never receives, holds, or processes that money. GrowGood then bills you the standard $1.49 per tree through the Shopify Billing API, exactly as it does for merchant-funded trees, and plants the tree.
In other words: merchants are never charged outside of the Shopify Billing API. The only money collected outside the Billing API is the shopper's contribution, and it is collected by the merchant, for the merchant, at the merchant's own checkout.

4. Trials, refunds, and cancellation
- No trial needed. Because there is no recurring fee, an installed App that plants no trees costs nothing.
- Cancellation. Uninstalling the App cancels the subscription immediately. You are billed only for trees already planted at that point.
- Refunds. Trees are planted in the physical world and cannot be un-planted, so per-tree charges are generally final. If you believe you were charged in error, email us and we will investigate and issue a correction where warranted.
- Development stores. Partner and development stores are billed as test charges and are never charged real money.
